A Second Chance for Tokyo

So glad I came back to Japan. I wanted to give it another shot because I didn't love it last time I was here. Couple of reasons. First, I spent most of that trip in the post-tsunami disaster zone, which was both heartening -- watching and learning how people are working so hard on recovery efforts -- but also horrifying, shocking, and difficult to absorb, which made the idea of "enjoying the trip" wholly inaccurate and inappropriate.   Second, during that previous visit a year ago, I was with people who spoke Japanese and knew the culture intimately. Ramen Redux in Japan

Second visit to Japan, and this time it's all about EATING! A little over a year ago, I visited the Tsukiji Fish Market with some friends and we struck out. Somehow managed to go on a holiday and one of the world's most frenetic and vibrant scenes was instead an empty stage.
